As the world hurtles towards a COVID-19 vaccine, the Africa Development Solution (ADS) in partnership with Africa Health Business and Mansa Media will be hosting the ‘Access to COVID-19 Vaccines for Africa’ webinar on Thursday, 3rd December 2020.

The first-ever virtual webinar will include discussions by field experts on the procurement and financing solutions for the production, distribution, and administration of the COVID-19 vaccine in Africa. This thematic session will also include vital partnerships in the public-private space, highlighting the role that they play around the discussions.

The webinar is timely as only three in 10 African countries are ready to deploy a Covid-19 vaccine, according to a new World Health Organisation analysis. This means Africa is not ready for what will be the continent’s largest-ever immunisation drive.

As the race for a vaccine nears the end, the WHO is calling on African countries to come up with plans and systems to carry out the Covid-19 vaccinations efficiently when the doses become available.

According to the analyses which are based on country self-reports, Africa has an average score of 33% readiness for a Covid-19 vaccine roll-out, which is well below the desired benchmark of 80%.

“An 80% weightage shows a country can safely deploy a vaccine with maximum safety while the current 33% weightage for Africa means that countries need to bring up the areas of immunisations that are still lagging behind,” said Dr. Richard Mihigo, WHO’s Program Area Manager, Immunisation and Vaccine Development.

The webinar is set to bring together some of the most influential public, business leaders and key stakeholders in the healthcare sector across Africa for a thematic session on access to COVID-19 vaccines for Africa themed, ‘Partnerships for resilient health system.’

It will also include a panelist of speakers, among them Samba Bathily – CEO & Founder, ADS Group and Paulo Gomez – Co-chair for Afrochampions, with Dr. Amit N. Thakker, Chairman of the Africa Health Business as the webinar moderator.

The webinar is powered by notable partners including ADS Group as the organizer, G42 as the strategic partner and Equally (an initiative by ADS), Africa Health Business and Mansa Media as the organizing partners.

At least three vaccine candidates – AstraZeneca and its partner, the University of Oxford, Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna are seeking regulatory approval after attaining at least 90% efficacy in clinical trials of tens of thousands of people.

ADS operates as an integrated platform specializing project management, as well as in the provision of services and equipment, servicing African states, African and foreign multinationals and people of the continent.
